Exam

Having your pet examined at least once a year is the best way to keep your pet healthy and help prevent serious medical problems. We believe in proactive medicine- it is always better to prevent illness than to treat a problem after serious symptoms have started. During each office visit, Dr. Smith performs a full physical exam to help detect any problems that may exist.

Preventive Medicine

Vaccinations play an important role in the health of your pet. There are many life threatening diseases that can now be prevented by starting a series of vaccinations when the pets are young. As adults, some vaccines need to be given yearly and some need only be given every three years. Also, the appropriate vaccines can depend on a pet’s environment and lifestyle. Dr. Smith and his knowledgeable staff can advise you as to the proper vaccines for your pet.

Laboratory

Many conditions can only be detected through lab tests. Dr. Smith recommends at least annual blood testing, especially in senior pets, to look for any signs of kidney disease, liver disease, common infections, parasites and many other illnesses. Very often hidden diseases are found early with lab tests and can be treated effectively before they cause trouble. If Dr. Smith needs test results quickly, we have in-house lab equipment that can give him important information in just minutes.

At Sunshine Animal Hospital, we maintain a large pharmacy so that treatment of your pet can start immediately. We also have an on-line pharmacy with a large selection of flea preventatives, heartworm preventatives, and arthritis medications that can be delivered to your door. We can also have medicines compounded in formulas made specifically for your pet.

Surgery

Dr. Smith has over 20 years of experience performing many different surgical procedures. We have a fully equipped surgery suite with modern, safe anesthesia and state of the art monitoring equipment. A certified veterinary technician is always present to assist the doctor and monitor the patient.

Dentistry

Believe it or not, dentistry is an extremely important part of your pet’s health. They can’t brush and floss their own teeth. Tartar that builds up leads to gingivitis which leads to infection, pain and tooth loss. The infection can also be carried to other organs such as the kidneys and even the heart. At Sunshine Animal Hospital, we can perform dental scaling and polishing with special equipment made for pets in order to prevent and treat these serious problems.

Radiology

We have a modern radiograph machine and processor. X-rays can be ready in just a few minutes, allowing Dr. Smith to make a rapid diagnosis.

Boarding

Sunshine Animal Hospital has safe, air conditioned boarding facilities for dogs and cats. Dogs get frequent walks. Cats have there own special room, away from those scary dogs. If your pet needs medicine or special treatments during their stay, our knowledgeable staff will provide them under Dr. Smith’s supervision.

Drop-off

Sunshine Animal Hospital is open at 7:00 AM on weekdays so that if necessary, you can drop off your pet on your way to work to be seen by Dr. Smith. He or she can stay all day at no additional charge.
